Tocopherol, Vitamin E, zu den fettlöslichen Vitaminen gehörende Gruppe chemisch verwandter Stoffe – aufgebaut aus einem Chromanring mit isoprenoider Seitenkette – deren wichtigster Vertreter, α-Tocopherol, in Getreidekeimlingen besonders reichlich vorkommt und biochemisch v.a. als Antioxidans wirkt, d.h. die Oxidation ungesättigter Fettsäuren verhindert. Mangel führt bei Ratten, Kaninchen, Meerschweinchen zu Fertilitätsstörungen, eine Hypervitaminose ist unbekannt.
